Reading and Snuggles

I read snuggled up to the kids. I kiss them, play with their hair, and pat them. We lay together in bed or on the couch, cuddled with a blankie.

Reading to the baby.
Does the love and relaxed environment contribute to a positive attitude about reading? What about the physical love ?

If so, what happens when children primarily learn to read from a teacher who cannot snuggle and brush hair? Does it matter at all?

  1. I think it absolutely matters. I'm a snuggly reader too.....I don't think I've ever read a book to C where we weren't physically touching in some way. It's one of the rare times I GET to cuddle these days, and I relish it. And C LOVES reading now. She loves "comfy" reading too...in her bed, on a stuffed animal, etc. I never thought about the correlation though, for kids who learn from a teacher in a classroom with no physical contact! Food for thought!!

  2. Yeah, I have no idea. I googled it quickly, and really didn't come up with any valid article or research. It was just rambling in my head, so who knows if there is anything to it!

  3. Great question! I don't teach "reading" in that way, since I teach older kids, but I've often wondered the same thing. (Of course, we do the snuggling, backrubs & all that at home with my own kiddos)

I'm wondering why it says 2 comments already but I can't see them? Did you have a spam problem, perhaps?
