My name is Lauralee Moss. I've had a busy year and am so glad I recorded it on my blog. Here is background: After I graduated from SIUC in 2001, I moved to Peoria, IL to begin teaching high school English. I soon fell in love and was married. Two years later, my handsome son Ty was born followed by baby girl Za two years after that. Seven years after moving for a great job, I threw in the towel as I could no longer balance my teaching career, mothering, a house, and a husband. I miss my old job, and so my blog was born.
I write about education and my children and how I see connections in my everyday life with them. I am so blessed and happy to be home with them, but I will always be a teacher at heart. In my blog, I journal all my thoughts and reflections about teaching my children.
I so look forward to meeting everyone as the blog party continues!
(If I had to choose a prize, I really like (1) Target and the (2) bumper stickers! I also love amazon, so the (3) gift certificates from there would be great too. If that won't work, 104, 102, and 91 look awesome too! I am a lover of all things chocolate and coffee and I have a three year old son. Anything that touches on that is perfect).
Hi welcome to the blog party! I'm wondering if you plan on homeschooling since you were a teacher before? Have a great party!
ReplyDeleteAs a former teacher (elementary) turned SAHM, I look forward to reading more! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteIt has never crossed my mind to homeschool, as odd as that may sound! I'm so happy to meet both of you! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHi mama - Nice to meet you - found you on 2010 UBP. I signed up to follow your blog, I invite you to follow back! Have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to meet another SAHM. My son is 10, but I cannot imagine having a full time job that would compete with my time with him. I think SAHM made the right decision staying at home
ReplyDeleteEducation is one of my passions! I've been homeschooling for 7 years and I spent 5 years before that reading books about education and talking to all sorts of people from the very rigid classical educators to the "they'll learn just exploring the world" unschoolers and everyone in between. Two of my college roommates became high school English teachers, so we get to talk education. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat meeting you!
Nice to meet you Lauralee! Happy party week :)
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you Lauralee. I actually have an aunt named Laura Moss, funny coincedence. It's interesting to see how blogs are born, and that yours was after you stopped teaching. It does take a lot to balance everything, but you seem to do it well.
ReplyDeleteParty on :)

Hi. Just dropping by from the UBP. :D
ReplyDeleteWow going from teacher to SAHM. That can't be to hard. But I guess it depends on the person, 'cause a lot of our teachers would do it when I was in school.
It was nice to meet you. You sound like a nifty person :D
Stopping by from the UBP, nice to “meet you”!!
ReplyDeleteAlso stopping by from UBP. My sister is a teacher, so I have a soft spot in my heart for them! Party on.

ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you! I came here via the UBP! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a great transition from teaching outside the home to your own children! :D
Hi! I like the premise of your blog. I have a 13 yr old Aspie and have had to be a major educator for him most of his younger years. So I like the idea of applying educational tools in a less formal setting
ReplyDeleteHi Lauralee! It's great to meet you. English was my favorite subject in school, so we would probably get along very well.
ReplyDeleteHave fun at the UBP!
I like your blog! It is very nice to meet you :)
ReplyDeleteHappy UBP!

I love your blog! I have a degree in education but never used it because I decided to stay home with my kiddos! So now I'm using my degree to homeschool them! It's funny that your first two comments said something about that! I will be following you to keep my teacher brain up to par! Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I taught HS English for 3 years before I just had to stay home with the kids...even home-schooled this year, but probably won't do it next year for lots of reasons...but I enjoyed every minute of it.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck! Look forward to reading more! You made my Envy list ;)
I used to want to be a teacher...and now I too am a SAHM! Looking back...I'm so glad I chose the latter. It's so nice to 'meet' you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog. I love visitors. Stop by again anytime. Happy Weekend and have fun partying! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteHi! I'd like to become a regular reader of your blog. I live in Rockford, also having a teaching background, and stay at home with our kids. We have homeschooled our kids, and our first is ready to graduate from high school this year. I use my teaching skills working at the home school co-op.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by as part of the UBP. Loved reading some of your SAHM struggles and triumphs. I'll be keeping them in mind as my daughter gets older and more kids (hopefully) come into the picture!
ReplyDeleteStop by my blog if you get a chance.
http://dreamingwithmidnite.com
I am a fourth grade teacher right now and mommy to a 15 month old. I'm really thinking that after next year I too want to be a SAHM. Looking forward to reading more about what that transition is like.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to meet you! Your blog posts look so interesting. I look forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteHallee the Homemaker
Hi, LauraLee. I'm here from the UBP, of course, and I'm going to bookmark you and come back after the party. We have a lot in common - I, too, was a high school English teacher before I came home to be a mom. I, too, think lots about educational theory and best practices (I know the author of one of the best books on multiple intelligences!). I can't tell from this post if you now homeschool or plan to - but that's what I'm doing now and am SO thankful for it. Hope we can "talk" soon...and visit me at http://tinahollenbeck.blogspot.com/2010/04/2010-ultimate-blog-party.html. :^)
ReplyDeleteStopping by from #UBP10 - my first. I'm a regular working mom in school studying to become a special education teacher...I had to wait until my girls were older to go back to school. So now I juggle work full-time, school full-time, teenagers full-time (no husband to worry about anymore). So far I have survived!
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping in from UBP10. I am also a teacher turned stay at home mom. Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteCome see me sometime.
http://www.howaretheharmons.blogspot.com
Hi! Thanks so much for popping in over at my blog. My mom was a teacher for many years, and she blogs too - one of her blogs is filled with educational ideas. I guess once you're a teacher it's in your blood! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend!
Hi, I'm here for the party! Enjoyed going through your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to meet you - interesting blog! Have fun partying!
ReplyDeleteI was a teacher for 6 years before my oldest was born...and I often find myself wanting to go back and apologize to some of the parents of some of my students. I "get it" now.
ReplyDeleteStopping in from the party and following you now. :)
Glad I found you! This is my first time visiting. I surfed over from 5 Minutes for Mom. Looking forward to getting to reading more as we go. My party post can be found at "Ultimate Blog Party 2010 at Dayngrous Discourse.

ReplyDeleteHI! Popping in for the UBP! This is my first year and I love discovering all the new blogs I didn't know about! I will be visiting again soon!
ReplyDeleteI too was a teacher turned SAHM. It was extremely hard at first but now that my children are grown I have no desire to return. It was hard changing identities but certainly worth it.

ReplyDeleteHi! I'm another former high school English teacher turned SAHM! I'm so glad to have found your blog as I think we share a lot of the same interests/ideas about teaching, learning, and being a mom! My daughter is 3 and I write mostly about the books we read and the activities we do together inspired by those books. I hope you'll stop by and check it out! SillyEagleBooks.com

ReplyDeleteJust stopping by during the UBP! I think your blog has the most "unique" layout I've seen! Happy Partying! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I taught 1st grade for 3 years prior to moving into the educational not for profit sector. I now work PT & stay home PT. I'm *constantly* thinking about how to apply my teaching to my kiddos at home, especially since C is now getting to pre-school age.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my UBP post. I'll be back, stop by mine again too!
Stopping by from - where else? - UBP10! I was drawn to the name of your blog since I am also a teacher who is staying at home. I have two daughters, who are 5 and 2. My sister lives in Peoria, and is a professor at Bradley. You could say teaching runs in the family!

Visiting from UBP! I love your blog layout. I am a SAHM but I would love to get my teaching cert.
ReplyDeleteHi Lauralee!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a former teacher, but I am a SAHM who homeschooled my daughter for several years. Prior to being a SAHM, I worked as an Accountant and hated my career field. I'm so much happier now and find motherhood much more rewarding plus exciting!
Happy UBP!
Happy UBP!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! In fact, I'm going to bookmark this one. I suppose I'm a bit of the reverse of you. I'm more of a SAHM Transitions to Teacher. I completed my BA in Elementary Education, while having + raising my kids. My 1st born was born during my 2nd semester of college, daughter in the 2nd year, and I carried my last during my student teaching internship. He was a mere 6 weeks old when I graduated. I decided not to go to work immediately, but now that my oldest is getting ready to start K in fall, I think I'm ready to dip my toes in the career pool. Hope the waters agree with me!
Peeking in from the UBP - I'm surrounded by teachers in my family (actually, particularly in my husband's family). People assume I'm one; I'm not - if trying to deal with an entire classroom of kids simultaneously didn't kill me, trying to deal with the bureaucracy would - but I have a life-long interest in education.
ReplyDeleteWe just dealt with classification yesterday. My younger daughter was learning in religion class about what differentiates the Mass from other prayer services, and you could just hear the blocks tumbling down in her head while doing her homework, as she tried to cope with the knowledge that "going to church" and "going to Mass" weren't the same thing, as she had thought.
As for colors, have you read about languages that classify them very differently than English/Western languages? Kind of wild to wrap your head around an entirely different paradigm. Looking forward to reading more of your blog!
I'm another teacher turned sahm. This is the best teaching job that I've ever had :)

Well, looks like there are a lot of teachers here at the UBP. I taught in the public schools and am now homeschooling my two children. The thing about teaching is you can always use it...in the classroom or out.
