I still met the standards, but I was able to create a lot of project based learning ideas in my first year, where the students really had an opportunity to truly apply what they had learned. A few of their samples I posted on my blog at hwiley2.blogspot.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4621615384713886871.post-50243286116544464672010-07-08T06:52:04.636-07:002010-07-08T06:52:04.636-07:00I think it is a mixture of teachers who are too ti...I think it is a mixture of teachers who are too tired/beaten down or who never cared and teachers who try to fix the system. The first kind of teachers end up teaching to the test and forming dependent learners. Too often, the second kind of teachers turn into the first, or leave altogether.

Twenty years ago, seniors were more independent, absolutely.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00682064225081889667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4621615384713886871.post-26774171096661425472010-07-04T22:40:19.031-07:002010-07-04T22:40:19.031-07:00Excellent post. It is unfortunate that many HS teachers become victim to teaching to the test... both state tests as well as SATs. I feel for HS teachers who are caught in the "teaching to the test" scenario. Many can't win... Both parents and administrators need to realize there is more to education than high test scores and pumping out graduates who are dependent on others for their success. What happens to these students when they have to survive on their own? Are today's high school seniors as independent as those 20 years ago? I don't think so.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13167438586570477189noreply@blogger.com
